The Toronto Lands Corporation (TLC), on behalf of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), has issued a Request for Proposals for architectural services to design a mixed-use residential building led by the inclusion of a new podium elementary school at 50 Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Lane in North York, formerly Block 20 of the Canadian Tire Lands.  TLC and TDSB seek an organization capable of clearly and creatively illustrating how this property can be reimagined into a mixed-use development with a new state-of-the-art podium elementary school with a residential component.

TDSB purchased the 1.8-acre property from the City of Toronto in 2018 to redevelop it into a JK-8 elementary school. Over the past six years, the area surrounding the site has experienced rapid population growth and significant land use policy changes. Thousands of new residential units have either recently been completed or are under construction, making a new educational facility a high priority for the community and for TDSB.

When completed, TLC expects the new school to be approximately 70,000 sq ft and accommodate up to 675 students. On February 6, 2025, TLC’s Board of Directors approved a work plan for additional due diligence to be completed in 2025 as part of a larger work plan that anticipates the school opening in September 2031.

The current request for proposals will close on March 25, 2025.
