Golden Mile Secondary Plan Study
The Golden Mile Secondary Plan (GMSP) study was initiated by the City with the goal of developing a vision and comprehensive planning framework to facilitate and support appropriate residential and non-residential growth while protecting and encouraging new employment and office development. The Golden Mile Study Area is located within a commercial/industrial area of the City that was never assigned a home school.
TLC and TDSB staff has been engaged in the study process, identifying the need for a new TDSB elementary school site within the GMSP area in order to locally accommodate the elementary student population expected to result from the GMSP-supported residential growth. TLC has been reviewing draft policies and working with City staff to ensure that the GMSP policy framework:
- Recognizes local schools as a component of complete communities and supports the inclusion of a TDSB elementary school
- Provides a comprehensive approach to managing the impact of development and providing adequate community services and facilities to serve this area
- Includes implementation policies that allow for appropriate coordination with public agencies such as TLC to help prioritize the delivery of community services and facilities
- Provide incentives to developers/landowners to include a school site on their property through mechanisms such as excluding public schools from maximum density calculations
- TLC is also engaging with local landowners. Many of the landowners in the area have also submitted development applications for their sites.
